It seems like "the musicians will make their money from live shows" will soon be replaced by "the fans can't get tickets without going to a scalper so they now hate the musicians". I'm glad I'm not playing any of those TM-exclusive venues, I hope I never do.

I'm in no particular hurry to defend Ticketmaster, and surely, whatever was available on Saturday morning was gone quickly enough. But the site never really said "sold out" or "nothing available, stop trying." Rather, the site said "no match..." which could have meant any of a number of things. I'd have preferred something more like "server overloaded, try again." And then NOT have to keep re-entering the stupid 'captcha' phrase over and over. I get that 'captcha' is meant to distinguish the robots from the humans, I didn't know it was also a means for separating the die-hard fans from somebody who just wants to see a fucking show...

Yeah, it's a mess on all fronts. Can Fan Freedom use this post as is, or do you want me to post something separate on your site (would a link to this post do?). You can use any part of this you'd like. Feel... umm... free....

Thanks for the comment, Andrea. The whole business is so opaque, it's hard to know for sure just what is going on. It certainly seems... curious... that there were so few actual tickets available when the public sale started Saturday morning (as the @TheRyman:twitter Twitter feed seems to suggest, though even that is not crystal clear). As for the "paperless tickets" system, no telling whether that is meaningful, either.

Great post, but not sure paperless would be a solution either, as it tends to cause a lot of other hardships for fans, while failing to stop scalpers. Just check out what's happening with Springsteen tickets now.

Or what happened in NYC when Radiohead fans had similar trouble at the on sale and ticket were restricted.

If anyone had trouble with the Mumford on sale, or if you have problems with the paperless tickets at the show, please tell us. We're collecting fan stories to aid our efforts to make the ticketing market more fair for fans.

It is clear that many of the tickets were bought by ticket brokers, likely through a pre-sale. It is a farce to suggest that paperless tickets prevent scalping. All entities involved (ie. band, venue, ticketmaster, brokers) should be transparent about this system so saps like us will not continue to get our hopes up only to dashed again and again.
